She Shoots! She Scores! PDF Print E-mail

Legacy seventh-grader Adele Mouna is on a competitive roller hockey team. She plays in an 8-10 U-league along with her brother. Adele is an offensive forward on the Rangers and wears number 29.

Adele has only been involved in roller hockey since August 2009. She started playing hockey when one of her neighbors bought a the rink, 3 Star Ice, and suggested she try it.
“I started lessons,” Adele says, “and from that day on, I’ve loved hockey.”

She says her favorite part about hockey is playing offense. She also loves the rush of adrenaline when trying to steal the puck. She enjoys skating and the competitiveness of the sport.

Adele looks up to six-time World Champion hockey player, Peter Dale. He came to teach a boot camp at 3 Star Ice. Adele was able to steal the puck from him and score a goal.
Adele says that she may want to pursue this as a career, but for now hockey is just a hobby.

For all of you who play hockey, or any sport, here are some words of encouragement from Adele: “Never give up. You will obviously win, lose, and sometimes get beat up, but if you have the right attitude, your team will eventually win the game.”

Lightning Thief: Book Yes, Box Office No PDF Print E-mail

By Sarah Cruthirds
Everyone has been asking, “Who’s the Lightning Thief?” If you want to find out, I suggest you read the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. This series is very good.

However, the movie, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, is extremely bad. It leaves out very important characters that play major roles in the later books. The movie also leaves out major scenes that add to the essence of the overall mystery.

Many of the characters in the movie are not portrayed well either. The actress who plays Annabeth, Alexandra Daddario, is too old. Another character, Grover, is supposed to be a lean, timid Satyr who’s into saving the environment. He is none of these in the movie. My problems were with the director, Chris Columbus, and his decisions, not with the actors themselves. The acting itself was well done.

Some very important things were left out by the director. Percy’s dreams and visions of Kronos, the evil Titan Lord, one of the story’s bad guys, are not present. Also, some important actions of Ares, the god of War, and Hades, were left out. These plot points were very important elements in the book.

The movie is very choppy and doesn’t flow well. I think it was lazy and irresponsible of the director to take such a fun fantasy book and turn it into the one of the worst movies of the year. It hardly gives any detail and left me feeling like I wasted my time.

I would not recommend this movie to anyone. I would suggest reading the Percy Jackson and The Olympians series of books instead.
