Dress Code

The Dress Code provides standards to insure a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance for students. Since Legacy has an open campus, uniforms also provide security for our students.

General Guidelines

Dress at all times should be modest and in good taste.

  • Students are not allowed to wear clothing that is too tight, too baggy, immodest (low cut necklines, see-thru material or short skirts) or items with rips, holes or frayed edges.
  • Girls may not wear shoes with heals more than 1” in height
  • Hair should be clean and neatly styled, with no extreme hairstyles (for example, mohawk) or unnatural hair colors.
  • Hair must be out of the eyes and no longer than the tops of the eyebrows (for both boys and girls).
  • Caps, hats and bandanas may not be worn in the classroom.
  • Girls may wear light nail polish in conservative colors.
  • Girls in grades 6 and up may wear light makeup. Heavy makeup, such as black eyeliner, dark lipstick or extreme colors, is not permitted at school.
  • Jewelry should be limited to a single, appropriate necklace and/or bracelet, earrings and a watch.
  • Girls are allowed to wear earrings in the earlobes only; No more than two earrings per ear and these must only be in the earlobe.  No ear spacers.  Earrings should be no larger than a 50 cent piece. No other pierced jewelry is permitted.
  • Boys are not allowed to wear earrings.
  • Any pre-existing tattoos must be covered while on the school campus.
  • Legacy Spirit shirts may be worn on Fridays in grades PreK – 4th for elective classes.   No jeans  please.
  • Polos are required for all students on Mondays and Wednesdays, and on Fridays for upper school students, unless otherwise notified. The t-shirts on Land’s End are approved for P.E., lower school electives, athletics and spirit days only.

Hair and Accessories            

Hair for both girls and boys should clear the eyebrow and be kept out of the line of vision.  Bizarre haircuts, unusual haircuts, unnatural colors are not allowed.

Specific to Girls:

  • Hair accessories must color coordinate with school uniform.
  • The current trend is for girls to have feather extensions. These are allowed but should be limited to no more than two (2) feathers.

Specific to Boys:

  • Boy’s hair is to be no longer than the middle of the ear on the side and   not over the collar in the back.  Hair should be neat and well groomed.
  • Facial hair for boys is not permitted.  Boys should be clean-shaven.
  • Sideburns are not to be longer than the middle of the ear.
  • No hair accessories for boys  
  • No chains attached to belts or wallets

Formal attire:

  • Formal attire guidelines apply to LPCA guests as well as students.

Specific to Girls:

  • Formal, elegant dresses preferred;  backless dresses/strapless dresses not permitted; midriffs must be covered; slits no more than 2 inches above the knee;  neckline modestly cut..

Specific to Boys:

  • Formal tuxedos or dress suits; formal shirts or dress shirts with ties and dress slacks.

Uniform Requirements

  • Polo shirts in gray, hunter green, light blue, or pink (girls only) must be ordered from Land’s End with the school logo (School Number: 9001-0697-2)
  • Students may wear cardigan sweaters, sweatshirts or “hoodies” during cold weather or in the classroom. These items must be purchased from Land’s End or the Booster, and have a logo displayed on the front.  No exceptions will be made.
  • Boys may wear navy or khaki pants or shorts that reach the knees. Pants may not have rips or holes.
  • Girls may wear navy or khaki pants, capris, skirts, skorts or shorts. Capris may not be form-fitting or of knit material. Shorts, skirts and skorts must be within two inches of the knees. Younger students should wear bike shorts under skirts and dresses. Girls may also purchase the grey skirt that is approved through Land’s End.
  • All students must have their shirts tucked in during class.
  • Belts are suggested, but not required.
  • Shoes must have closed toes and closed heels – tennis shoes are preferred.  NO crocks.
  • Socks must be worn at all times and must coordinate with the school uniform.  Leggings may be worn with dresses or skirts but must coordinate with the school uniform.
